A Tet gift from Layơ Lab, inspired by cold winds, warm memories, and a not-so-ordinary year of the cat
(CHALLENGES) Designing for Tet often means repeating the usual icons: flowers, red envelopes, firecrackers. But this time, we wanted to speak to a different feeling, the courage of overseas Vietnamese who celebrate in cold winds and unfamiliar cities. How do we turn that feeling into something beautiful, relatable, and joyfully strange? That was the challenge Meowy Pleasure set out to answer.

Instead of traditional motifs, we reflected on personal memories and emotional textures. The white feline fur became a symbol of resilience amidst cold, paired with the gentle movements of bird murmuration, symbols of distant community and hope.
(BIG IDEA) We took inspiration from personal memories of a white winter cat’s fur and flying birds as symbols of endurance and community across distances. Using simple programming techniques, we created soft, flowing patterns that feel warm and alive. The metallic flowers in the design represent medals given to those who celebrate Tet far from home. This design changes a personal story of loneliness into a message about cultural connection. It’s a fresh way to tell a story about courage and keeping traditions alive even when you are far away.
The visuals reject clichés, blending cool tones and abstract elegance to evoke warmth and strength.
(DESIGN) White ink printed on metallic foil creates a shining effect like snow in light. The patterns inspired by cat fur show softness and strength. Flowers become simple symbols of medals honoring perseverance. The typography uses traditional Tet couplets arranged vertically, like a tear-off calendar. Fun cat-related word puns add a friendly and joyful feeling to the design. Overall, the look is modern but still respects Tet traditions, avoiding usual clichés and focusing on simple, clear visuals.

(PRODUCTION) The white ink on foil reflects light differently as you move the package, making it fun to touch and look at. This invites people to explore the gift by hand, turning opening it into a special experience. Playful cat word puns add warmth and smiles. The textures and interactive design reflect strength and joyful celebration even when far from home. This gift encourages people to think about connection and courage during Tet, making it a meaningful present beyond just decoration.
